The American right to vote is a defining role in the democracy of our nation. We have overcome suffrage of many American’s and made amendments to the constitution to allow everyone who is a citizen of the United States, over the age of 18, the right to vote. Since the late 20th century, the number of American’s that exercise their right to vote continues to decrease, while people that are actually registered to vote are at an all-time high.

This is a right that some people only wish they could participate in. We as American’s take this privilege for granted. If we gave citizen’s the outlet to vote from home, we would be giving the convenience they are looking for. As a lifelong resident of Pacific Northwest I have a vested interest in the social and political impacts to my community. I have personally voted in 3 elections since turning 18, and from my own personal experience by mail voting (BMV) has had a huge impact on the voting participation for me and my family. I grew up in a house with two parents who work full time and constantly kept my sister and I busy with social clubs and after school activities. BMV is something that has impacting my family in a very positive way. The luxury of getting my ballot delivered to my door has allowed us to increase our political activity, study the issues in advance, all while still living our busy lives. Many families in my town and all over the country face the same struggles. Sometimes there isn’t enough time in the day to do everything including heading to a specialized polling location. With a by mail voting system, it allows busy families to remain politically active by casting a vote on their time. Although, there are criticism to this voting style it also has many positives which is why I believe the country as a whole should move to this voting
