Rape is becoming an increasing worldwide issue, especially on University and College campuses. Unfortunately, rape is not uncommon and that 1 out of 5 women is sexually assaulted. Rape is not an accident and laws need to pave the way for justice to be served. According to Perkins and Warner (2017), universities provided their sexual violence policy on their websites, but these policies did not define the concept of “consent” (p. 239). Universities are ignoring the serious issues of rape in the University environment, but it will be discussed through this paper. The first primary source analyzed is from The Chronicle of Higher Education which brought light to this important debate in the article “Should all rape allegations involving college students be handled by the criminal-justice system? Or should campuses continue to use a separate disciplinary process?” (Brown, 2015, A16 ).
