Persuasive Essay On Rape In College

Among undergraduate women “23.1%” of them report to have experienced rape and/or sexual assault (Campus). Those are only the individuals who actually report their assault. Imagine the amount of people who have not spoken up out of fear or embarrassment. Sexual assault has been an issue in many colleges over the past few years, yet no one has come out to do something about it. Women should be able to feel safe and be able to receive their education fear free. To help with this issue I think administration should take every case seriously. They should not be worried about what the case will do to the college’s reputation. Making sure all of the women’s rights and safety are taken seriously without victim -blaming. It should not matter what the woman’s past looks like or how many partners they have had. The campus should even go as far as potentially expelling the accused.
Colleges want their reputations to be above reproach. This gives them motive to want to deny an individual the amount of justice that they deserve and treat it like an inferior problem. Less than one third of campuses sexual assault cases result in expulsion (Kingkade). That means that two thirds of people who are accused of sexual assault are still roaming around campus possibly sexual assaulting other women. I am flabbergasted at how the administration can sit back and let this terrible act of violation and disrespect happen to women all over the country with limited if any punishment to the perpetrator. If we remove these people who have raped or sexual assaulted others it would make college a safer for women to enjoy the education they spent so much money
