The issue that the class should discuss this year should be racism, because it has such a significant impact on both our society and individuals today. Many people in our world today fail to believe that race is not the color of someone’s skin, but the artificial classification of someone. Unfair stereotypes about racism have taken root in hearts of many people. It causes everyone to react to people differently, whether it be in stores, on the streets and especially encounters between police officers. It also causes conflict in schools. It is said that black students are suspended or expelled at double the rate of their white classmates. Studies also show that students of color get more punishment and less access to the more skilled teachers.
