The instability of the U.S. housing market in recent years has been the cause for much anxiety. After the subprime mortgage crisis in 2008, obtaining mortgages became more difficult, as laws were put in place in an attempt to prevent another housing crash. The disastrous effects of the crash complicated the matter of mortgages greatly. To alleviate some of the difficulties of obtaining and refinancing a home mortgages, Quicken Loans has developed a new system called Rocket Mortgage, that highlights its simplicity to use.

This may be particularly appealing to older people or first-time home buyers who would like to avoid the paperwork required for handling mortgages in the traditional fashion. Also, the ad might attract owners of older homes, who may be looking to refinance. The cost and constant maintenance that many older homes require is a viable reason to try and reduce monthly payments. By showcasing a vintage bathroom, Quicken is trying to connect with homeowners who share a project such as remodeling a house. The topic of this ad is Quicken Loan’s easy solution to mortgages. The layout of the advertisement is one that displays simplicity. Only three items appear in the foreground of the picture which are a hand, a cell phone, and a small amount of text. This prevents the image from being cluttered with information, which would contrast with the idea of the ad campaign. The smartphone indicates the digital medium of the program.
