It is every kid's dream to jump 20 feet in the air. If you could jump through the ceiling in your classroom, it would both impress your crush and admit you straight to the principal’s office. Although your principal will not be happy, he or she will be thoroughly impressed. Your crush will not be able to keep his or her eyes off of you throughout the entire school year. They will want to be with you all the time and will not be able to leave you alone. Your phone would blow up with notifications from your crush and just about everyone else in your school. Above all else, you will be known as the “kid who jumped over the moon.” What if I told you that it is possible? To jump higher that NBA stars’ heads, to become famous in school, and to strut like a big man. The secret is in pole vaulting. It is really fun being able to jump as high as a rocket ship, and fall back to earth like a meteor. Before you begin, you need to become comfortable with holding the pole. Your dominant hand will be closer to the top of the pole and act as the engine, moving you forward, in your jump. Your non dominant hand will be closer to the middle, acting as the steering wheel. You may find it interesting that firemen and pole dancers make out to be the great pole vaulters, because they are so familiar with poles. The approach is the driving force of the vault itself. The reason for this being the most important is because there is no energy in the vault without the approach. The approach provides a powerful lift off from the ground using the pole. It takes an incredible amount of energy to bend the pole in the right direction; therefore, the faster you run with the pole, the more energy you put into it.
