On Wednesday July 6, a new mobile app by Nintendo was released. A few days after its release on Sunday July 10 in Clovis two teenagers were so preoccupied with looking for Pokemon that they became victims of a robbery (Fan). Hundreds of players are wandering into traffic, around parks after hours, private property, cemeteries, churches, and different towns by either driving or walking in search for new Pokemon or to stop at poke stops to increase their inventory. “Pokemon Go markets itself as a fitness app” (Appleton). While entering yourself into a different reality, you are involving yourself in a workout where you are also being rewarded for the amount of steps you take. As a player of this game, I’ve learned that you cannot hatch eggs if you are driving because the app detects speed. So if you want to hatch an egg you are committing yourself to one to three miles depending on what kind of egg you are choosing to hatch. As a player, of course I agree Pokemon Go is a great game, it's gotten me out of my house to walk around and exercise, but there needs to be regulations on locations of some of the poke stops and how they are being chosen to ensure the safety of the players and the properties or people being affected by this new game. To restock on supplies you can visit poke stops which can be at historical markers, monuments, and art installations. Poke stops can also be used to lure Pokemon to you for 30 minutes if you possess that item. Some of these can be located at churches, schools, parks, shops, restaurants, and cemeteries. These places can also be gyms, where players join one of three Pokemon Trainer teams, fight against the Pokemon that defend it to take it for their own team.
