Persuasive Essay On Pitbulls

I can understand why some people are afraid of pit bulls and feel there should be restrictions on them (Ethos, appealing to audience). There are many myths and misconceptions surrounding the breed that give them a terrible reputation. They are labeled as aggressive and vicious because of how they look and reports of their attacks, which are talked about and given more press attention than any other breed. While some people have a point that pit bulls are more inherently mean and dangerous than other dogs, they are wrong because their behavior is mostly dependent on how the owner raises their dog (Logos, concede). It is the owner who can bring up a dog so it is defensive and on edge. It is the owner who is at fault if their dog shows aggression as a result of being abused. It is the owner who suffers when their dog who is not treated poorly and behaves well is banned from cities and countries around the world simply for its breed (Pathos, repetition). Rather than banning innocent dogs we should be taking the abusive owners into account and looking into how dogs were raised and what caused them to attack. …show more content…
She, like most people, promotes that people who own dogs should raise them properly with care and to not abuse them. If somebody abuses their dog and it attacks somebody as a result of the harsh treatment, is the dog to blame? (Logos, rhetoric). When other breeds, such as golden retrievers, bite people, they do not automatically assume that it is because of their supposed aggressive nature, but when pit bulls bite, it is immediately blamed on the misconception that their breed is more violent than

One reason pit bulls should not be banned is that they are not that threatening. An example of this is that Pit-bull attacks are sometimes over reported by the media. In The Media and the Pit-bull the article states,”they will not cover a dog attack unless the situation involves a pit bull.” Usually the media keeps quiet when a cuter dog attacks someone. The media and the Pit Bull also states,”The media intentionally over-reports incidents involving pit bulls.”…

With the stories of how these dogs act, the fact states that the it's not entirely that dogs fault or is it? With the number of accidents people get the view of that breed of dog being scary, and associate that all dogs of that breed to be like that. Some point out that the owner is the reason the dog has an attitude. American Pit Bull Terriers are strong for their size and can be stubborn if left to their own devices...begin obedience training early and continue throughout the dog's life...training is a foundation for a strong relationship with your American Pit Bull Terrier (“American Pit Bull Terrier” 4). The answer leads to media. The media is the cause of the fear about Pit Bulls. They created the impression that these dogs are harmful and makes the public believe that they’re the only dogs that attack. It states in Source #4, “Despite the fact that other breeds of dogs can and do attack people, these incidents go unmentioned, even at the local level. The media intentionally over-reports incidents involving Pit Bulls, while keeping silent on attacks committed by dogs with better reputation, such as labradors.”…

While recently looking up Canadian laws, Animal Rights popped up and seemed very intriguing. From thereon, the Dog Owners Liability Act surfaced and it states “The owner of a dog is liable for damages resulting from a bite or attack by the dog on another person or domestic animal.” This law does make sense that the owner should take the responsibility of their dog because they were the ones who raised the dog to be the way it is but the one sub issue found with this law is the Pit Bull Ban. The total ban on the Pit Bull breed in Ontario is unacceptable because the government shouldn’t be targeting just the one breed because of the actions of several individual dogs, Pit Bulls shouldn’t be treated differently from other breeds, and if the government is already banning a whole breed, what is going to stop them from banning a bunch of other breeds that have the same attack numbers. Throughout this essay, it will be proven that the total ban of Pit Bulls is ridiculous and the law should be revoked.…

Most myths regarding pit bulls are based in fear, and almost all of them are proven fallacies. Pit bulls are not the only breed of dog that can have negative, aggressive tendencies based on its upbringing and other circumstances, but certainly an attack on an animal or a person by a pit bull is much more likely to be reported on the news, resulting in the creation of a bad reputation for pit bulls everywhere. Unfortunately, it is this belief that has caused some areas to put out bans on the entire breed. Not until people realize that any animal, even a pit bull, can be a very gentle, kind-hearted partner for life simply by raising the animal in the correct way, will pit bulls finally be rid of the negative and unfair reputation surrounding their…

Fear drives the irrational fear that all pit bulls are dangerous and should be banned. It is wrong to kill dogs just for being a certain type of breed. People often claim their dog was wrongfully put to death. It was on the Nashville news the other day that a man’s dog was shot by a police officer just because he was a pit bull. What the media targets are only things that would come to a shock or surprise to the society and the problem with this is that the media is not always correct about they say because they focus on one side of the story and what they see, what they leave out is cause of the situation or the background of it. For example, according to the article “ The Pit bull Placebo” “ In the 1970s the practice of dog fighting was becoming more aware to the public and in 1976 a californian boy was killed by a dog that was described to be a Bulldog, Bull terrier,…
