Persuasive Essay On Parking Issues

Decent Essays
Hi, Mike; Parking issues are not a Union issue, but when the rumor of discipline is involved it tends to become a concern.

The Union hopes that the city would never discipline or terminate an employee for parking on a city street when no other option is available, especially when the city of Medford Police officers regularly do this and to my knowledge, none has received a parking ticket or been disciplined.

The Union further understands that this is only a temporary issue until the new Police Station is finished and those vehicles will then park in the new garage and more spaces will be available not only to employees but the public as well and that will open up more spaces in the city hall lot.

I do hope we can find a quick solution

On June 21, 2012, the U.S. Supreme Court decided Knox v. Service Employees International Union, Local 1000, No. 10-1121, holding that when a union representing public-sector employees imposes a special assessment or increases dues to meet expenses that were not disclosed when the original assessment was set, the union must provide a new notice under Teachers v. Hudson, 475 U.S. 292 (1986). In this notice, the union must provide an estimate of the portion of its expenses that relate to nonpolitical services such as collective bargaining, so that nonmembers do not pay the union for political, ideological, and other purposes not related to collective bargaining. The company should prevail in this case. The union was certified as the exclusive representative of the employees, and has the right to “prescribe its own rules with respect to the acquisition or retention of membership”, as they attempted with the letter. However, considering that at the time the contract was not enforced and still being negotiated, the union violated Section 8 (b) (1) (A) by threatening to discipline nonmember employees. Nonmember crossed the picket lines to return to work, exercising their statutory rights protected by Section 7 of the LMRA. The union should not be imposing discipline retroactive for premembership conduct of nonmember employees, as it violates their statuary rights and other protected rights to engage in…

Digging a little further, when the rest of us are driving and seeing cards with these drunk driver license plates, we’d be more cautious around them. Call it properly targeted defensive driving. Also, law enforcement would keep a closer eye on them, especially during the hours when it’s more likely people are out partying and driving home from bars. They’d be able to focus more effectively on people who need to be monitored, doing spot checks of those cars that are on the road at 2 a.m. and being more likely to look for any erratic driving at other…
