Persuasive Essay On Overtime Rules

Everyone loves overtime. There is nothing better or more entertaining than watching two teams battle it out and go into extra time to decide the victor. However I believe that there is some serious room for improvement for overtime rules in some of the major sports leagues in the United States. In my opinion, the NFL, MLS, and MLB all have flawed overtime rules that don’t properly determine winners, and I offer changes that I believe will help even the playing field and more accurately determine the outcome of the games.

They made a good decision in changing the rules so that a field goal no long ends the game, but I believe that too much of an advantage is gained by winning the coin toss. My solution is simple: change the NFL overtime rules to the current NCAA football overtime rules. In the NCAA, though they do have a coin toss, both teams switch off getting the ball starting at the 25-yard line and are given an opportunity to score. This allows both teams defenses and offenses to see the field in overtime, and provides a more competitive scenario that I believe determines

However, it is my opinion that three leagues here in the United States: the NLF, MLS, and MLB have seriously flawed overtime rules that should be changed for the good of the sports. The current overtime rules of these three leagues do not fairly determine the winners of their respective sports. I believe that my suggested overtime rule changes would level the playing fields in all three leagues and more accurately determine a winner than the rules currently in

The NFL needs to improve on how team doctors are evaluating players after injury along with stopping the bribing of players with money. The NFL should also continue its research on concussions and brain/head complications later in life to see how much they are connected. I believe the NFL needs to take charge and implement new policies that can help prevent concussions and gruesome injuries to players. In the future the NFL could make practices safer by eliminating contact drills. They could also reevaluate techniques of tackling and blocking, and rules governing the game.…

To help achieve a better understanding of how comparable professional athletes are in their respective sports, looking at the top 100 earners in each sport will help. The MLB dominates other sports in average salary for the top 100 earners with 16.4 million dollars. Although the MLB has the highest average salary for the top 100 earners in the sport, they are being undervalued. “On average, teams are undervaluing players by 357,836.64” (Pearce). Athletes are getting brain disrupting injuries everyday and we are doing nothing to stop it. Student athletes should be required to sit out for one full year after two concussions in a six month period. The reason for this resting period is because athletes with injuries to the brain have been found to have brain disruptions up to ten years later and sometimes be diagnosed with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, also known as CTE. With all of the research being done about this topic, the number of concussions each year is still rising. There are many reasons this rule needs to be enforced.…

Year by year head injuries are rising in the National Football League. With head injuries growing the tension around the concussion issue is growing. With growing tension more pressure is put on the NFL in means of player safety. The NFL should do more to protect players against concussions because players are constantly taking hits, helmets are not concussion proof, and players are returning to action too soon after suffering a concussion. In the past the College Football champion used to be decided by a National Championship game between the two highest ranked teams given to the two teams with the best records. Nowadays the champion is decided through a playoff system that includes the four best teams in the country. In my opinion I think that the playoff is a great idea, and I strongly believe it should continue. The College football playoffs should continue because more people like the idea of a playoff between four teams rather than a National Championship between two teams.…
