Somin backs up his argument saying that "Similarly, a mandate requiring all Americans to purchase a car can be justified because virtually everyone participates in the transportation market" (par. 5). This example is a bit over exaggerated, however the concept is the same. It is scary to think that our constitution doesn’t actually give congress boundaries, but loose guidelines. If the government is allowed to be lax on something like mandating a purchase that effects all Americans, it can only be imagined what they will pass in the future. Reasons for this are discussed in an academic article by Patashnik and Zelizer about the struggles to re-create health care policies. They discuss the hardships involved in getting the uninsured population to look at themselves as ACA beneficiaries. This will be a struggle, as the healthy young Americans are required to purchase more insurance coverage than they are used to due to the regulations of Obamacare. There was extreme push back regarding the new laws regulations when Americans realized that their plans would be cancelled due to not meeting requirements. Along with the less expensive, sub-standard plans being abolished, there are now also disgruntled, healthy Americans paying thousands each year for insurance they don’t usually need or use to avoid getting charged the individual
