Persuasive Method Oh, la la advertisement. “Protect yourself from the holiday self,” says the Nexium advertisement. Who does not fall for the catchy advertisement, well here is one. An advertisement Nexium from the Sports Illustrated magazine is one of the convincing advertisement in the magazine. Nexium is a very effective advertisement that uses weasel words to attract individuals rather than asking readers to think deeply about the product, as well as question themselves. In addition to the effective advertisement, the Nexium ad also uses patriotism in the advertisement to express the love and support of an important holiday. Weasel words is when the advertisers use positive sayings without actually making any guarantee. For instance, the ad Nexium states, “Stay protected with Nexium* 24HR, the new #1 selling brand* for frequent heartburn.” This phrase is very catchy and grabs the readers attention. Who does not want to use a number one selling product and who does not want to use Nexium product which has the 24-hour relief of heartburn. Nexium is the number one selling brand as it states, it must be real good and who wants to deal with heartburn during the holidays, take one medicine and you will be protected for a whole 24-hour and just forget about the problem and live life. Secondly, the ad Nexium is an effective ad because the advertisement uses patriotism to show the love in Christmas and winter. Patriotism is when advertisers use products to show the love and support of their country. For example in this ad, Nexium shows a picture of a woman in a winter spirit and holding a plate of snowflake cookies. This ad expresses the theme of Christmas and winter.
