Mental health professionals can not speak out about a person they have not been authorized to diagnose (although a few have spoken out). While this makes ethical sense from their professional perspective, it leaves us without authoritative information.
For now, this means that the public must grapple with Trump’s narcissism on our own, and consider the implications for our political future. People who’ve experienced work or personal life with a narcissist are perfectly able to recognize the patterns of narcissism.

The power of the autocrat lies in our hands. A narcissist is keenly aware that his survival depends on the people around him to provide for his needs. An autocrat is just as keenly aware of where the line between public tolerance and outrage lies. He must stay on the side of tolerance or his power will be taken away. We are lucky to have strong traditions of non-violent activism to draw upon as guides. For those new to political self expression there is a lot to learn and a lot to do. But every alliance created, every act of expression, every phone call, every peaceful rally shows Congress and the President where we draw the line. We have already shown that we care, and care deeply. We don’t know what the future holds, we don’t know if Donald Trump will retain his hold on power or even if he’ll implode. Since we can not see the future, Americans must prepare to show up for the long haul in order to keep our democracy
