In second grade, I was labeled as dyslexic and stuck in the reading recovery class along with all the other ‘troubled students’. Every day I missed free time filled with exciting games such as seven-up and tag, forcibly sat in a room where the lights were just a bit too bright and the chairs a bit too straight, and read aloud. After an eternity of struggling through a page of words that wouldn’t stay where they were supposed to and letters that loved swapping places I went back to math class with a star sticker. The other kids in my class were jealous that I was allowed to go off and acquire stickers while they were forced to stay in class.…

Author of research paper Karen walker Rough draft Did you know that year round schools have a 2% dropout rate nearly three percent lower than schools without the year round program. More schools should make the change to the year round program and join the 3081 schools and 46 states currently employing the year round program. Opponents of the year round school argue that student need a long summer break to catch up on lost sleep, and lose stress. By employing the year round school program schools will provide students with short breaks spread out throughout the year decreasing student teacher burnout, eliminate the summer learning slide further reducing time spent reviewing, and increase the amount of new material learned which in turn increases test scores as well as enrichment and therefore, US schools should rely on the year round program to further boost the education of Americas schoolers. When it comes to first time babies, people seem to completely and totally forget the father. The mother is given all of the advice, she has all of the published literature to refer to, baby literate friends and relatives and all the networks and support she could possibly need. But Fathers seem to be left completely alone to fend for themselves and to figure it out all on their own, which seems a bit unfair. Dads need advice too!…

Despite the new outburst of year-round schooling across the nation, I have the firm belief that we should retain the traditional system. Most schools who have switched to the year round calendar switched back to the traditional one because the anticipated instructional advantages haven’t materialized. In some cases, it even results in a drop of one to two percentile points in national rank for reading, math, and language scores, compared to a traditional calendar. It is not a good idea to keep making this change.…

If school is all year round there will be drastic changes in the american lifestyle. For example school being all year round would be a problem for children because year round school will not give students enough family time. This is the case because sometimes parents like to take a vacation, or a break once in awhile. Therefore the government should let schools have a break during the school year so that children can have time to spend with family and friends. There are many more problems such as parents would have to make scheduling adjustments, and year round school won’t give students enough time to spend with family and friends, and year round school would cost more money.…

School has traditionally always had summer vacation, it has had summer vacation since the late 1800s, thought to be for agrarian reason has now been debunked for years, and yet nothing has changed. Not only has the agrarian excuse been debunked, but it proves how outdated the idea of a summer vacation is, and has been a struggling time for struggling families. To help academically and economically the school day should be shortened, but the academic year should be extended to year round schooling to make up for the time that is lost in doing nothing. The real reason why summer vacation exists, although true that in the agrarian calendar there would be a time for work in the summer, most of it was during spring.…

Education is an important facet in any government's function. I would hope that those that lead my country and those who lead other countries are educated and prepared to handle what challenges may arise to face them. Year-round school is a hotly debated subject among today's politicians, parents, and students. I hope to examine and assess the perspectives given, declare and explain my own perspective on the issue, and discuss the relationship between my perspective and those given. It can very easily be noticed that the first perspective is staunchly supportive of a year-round school year, and the third is supportive but not in favor of immediate implementation.…
