Marijuana should be legalized in the United States on a federal level for all purposes. Regulating marijuana as a crop would help maintain the environment. Economically, marijuana would help to boost revenue in the U.S. Marijuana also has numerous successful uses in the medical community. The United States has yet to legalize Marijuana, and this holds back the potential growth and protection of the environment that marijuana cultivation should offer. Marijuana is disregarded as being beneficial, and given a bad image, yet, it has been proven to have an extremely positive impact on the way we produce harvests. Medical marijuana has been researched and proven to sway the effects of several diseases on the body. Studies show that using cannabis for ailments like severe pain and Crohn’s disease decrease or eliminate symptoms. The Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology reported in a journal after a clinical study that “THC-rich cannabis produced significant clinical, steroid free benefits to 10 out of 11 patients with active Crohn’s disease, with no side effects” (Kenikoff et al CGHjournal.org). Marijuana is an easily accessible treatment for a disease that causes severe inflammation of the intestinal tract. An illness with side effects like frequent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, weight loss, fever, abdominal pain, and fatigue can be treated with no side effects from the natural growing plant. Legalizing medical marijuana should be a no-brainer to the United States government. Severe or chronic pain is another very common diagnosis that humans come across in a lifetime. Results showed that after the study, THC rich cannabis was “relatively non-addicting in contrast to opioids” (Webb NCBI.nih.org). A medication like morphine that is prescribed to relieve pain can lead to addiction and terrible side effects on the body.
