Persuasive Essay On Mandatory School Uniforms

As the debatable argument continues, should students have to wear mandatory school uniforms? Proponents say that school uniforms make schools safer for students, diminish economic social barriers, and encourage children to focus on their studies rather than their clothes. While on the other side of the argument, Opponents say school uniforms infringe upon students ' right to express their individuality, have no positive effect on behavior and academic achievement, and emphasize the socioeconomic disparities they are intended to disguise. With that said, a solution needs to take place to cease these two arguments. Furthermore, in Oklahoma City school districts 74 schools in mandated school uniforms; while 17 schools do not have mandatory school uniforms. Many families cannot afford to buy their children clothes for the whole year; therefore, parents can save money to use on other essential items such as basic living necessities. Another gain is that student’s can have more self-esteem and can focus on their education knowing there is not competition to what other students’ are wearing. However, on the other side sacrifices can also be a factor. For example, students in our society are all about individuality, this solution will make them lose their freedom of expressing themselves such as: dressing the way they want. In regard to this, students’ will realize that clothing should not affect them, but more of their personality should be an important factor to express them. As a result of this, the Oklahoma City School board would put this plan into action. Since the 74 schools in the district are already adopting this mandatory uniform policy, this policy needs enforced at the other 17 schools in the district.
