Have you ever met anyone or been around someone that maybe drinks too much? Some people want drinking age lowered to 18 others want it as 21. In this essay I am going to tell you how we need to tackle abuse among students, the ups and downs in lowering the age on buying alcohol, and how to make drinking age lowered work. More than 1800 college students die, and a lot more than that are injured all by alcohol. Is alcohol are friend or enemy? It can lead to random hook ups or not being able to remember what you did last night. College and high school kids often mix alcohol with prescription drugs such a xanex, hydrocodone, or ecstasy. Teens actually drink the same amount from back in my parent’s high school days to my high school days. Putting a legal age on drinking is ridiculous if people drink illegally anyways. It is all just throwing innocent kids in jail for only being kids. A lot of college kids drink a lot due to the minimal age of buying alcohol is 21 years of age which is around the age you are going to college. The law of not being able to drink has been around since 1984. Before 1984 the age to buy alcohol was actually 18 years of age. If we dropped this age with all we knew now compared to what we knew about alcohol back then I believe we would have a lot less problems with fatalities. My dad said he was sick of alcohol by the time he could go into the store and buy it he did not want any. My dad was able to buy alcohol at 18 and was sick of it. Of course you are still going to have your idiots that still think it’s cool, but is it all a phase? How many 40 year olds do you see going to big parties and getting drunk? It happens because we can’t just get rid of all of Americas idiots. Comparing 40 year olds and seniors in high school how many high schoolers do you hear about going to parties? Quite a bit huh.. but yet most of them liked to drink in high school. In Alaska they are making a bill for active members of the military that are 18 to be able to drink. People who oppose to the fast since the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 claim the roads have become safer since the kids were delayed on being able to drink. People against this are also saying that alcohol consumption is still a problem but lowering the age would do nothing to work against it being a problem. Right now we pretty much have a alcohol prohibition for adults ages 18 to 20 years of age. What we are doing now is not working and it is time to try other things. When alcohol is illegal then it is pushed into places like fraternity houses. Some also argue that the drinking age should be kept at 21 because the brain does not finish maturing, but in that case we should also raise the voting age and the military age.
