“Don’t walk away Anthony” I yelled at the young child who was running away. It was late at night when Anthony decided to run away from camp and I didn’t know what to do. knuckles white, and rage in my voice, I was angry. For the first time I questioned why I had signed up for the job of a camp counselor working with children because it was times like these that made me wonder if I truly enjoy working with children. A co-worker stepped in and did something I didn’t expect at all, in a calm voice in the still of the night he said “Anthony how about we go get a snack?”. Anthony, this co-worker, and I proceeded to sit down and talk through some things that were going on in Anthony’s life that I never expected him to have to deal with. Looking …show more content…
Love naturally puts the focus on other people whereas fear naturally puts the focus on ourselves. One might say that they hate something or love something else but that is not the context of those words that I am using. I believe that it is possible to live fearfully or to live lovingly. Living in fear drives a man to constantly be self-focused and whenever something bad happens this person will often lash out at what they see as the source of their pain. Times where I have knowingly done things that are wrong and at times even gotten away with it. Isn’t it interesting though that even though I am an inadequate human being I still have a deep love for myself. It really is quite amazing to think of all of the things I have done wrong and then consider that I still love myself. I notice also that I don’t give others this same amount of grace when it comes to caring for people. It would be very interesting to see even just a small group of people that legitimately cared for others as themselves. I am convinced that if such a group were to exist they would be able to accomplish nearly anything. If said group did exist they would be so strongly bonded together that they would not have anything to fear. If an environment was created that is made of 100% affection for others than there would simply be no room left to live fearfully. There would be no fear because love drowns out
