As high school graduation season approaches, many students are deciding where to go to college. Community colleges are being looked at based on what they offer, if a student is interest in sports they are most likely to pick a school based on that. Lone Star College is a community college that does not offer major sports like football, however Blinn College, which is also a community college, has a very talented football team. Lone Star College should have a football team, because it will be a major resource to students attending the college and it will give many students a chance for higher opportunity like scholarships.
There are many sports played at Lone Star College like tennis, flag football and basketball, however the sports are only played at campus because Lone Star College does not play against other schools. Football is a national sport and is very popular also it is common for colleges to have football teams however Lone Star College does offer the hyped up sport. The college is a member of National Junior College Athletic Association, which provides the athletes with high college opportunities like scholarships. Lone star college should also have a program similar to this to help the students in their upcoming future. In 2010, Cam Newton who was a former football player for the Buccaneers “was selected as the 76th winner of Heisman Memorial Trophy as the most outstanding college football player in the United States for 2010.” Cam Newton became successful in sports and college he was picked as the number one player by Carolina Panthers in the 2011 NFL draft. Tons of students have talent but are unable to show their skills due to the lack of football teams in community college like Lone Star College, having a football team can give the students a chance to be apart of the NFL
