The legalization of marijuana is becoming more and more of a controversial issue in the state of Ohio. Just recently, the initiative to legalize it has been put on the bill as an issue to be voted on. But there is a lot that goes into voting on a topic as controversial as the legalization of marijuana. Politicians on either side of the issue seem to be very passionate about where they stand, and believe that in allowing it’s recreational and medicinal use, that it will definitely have a big impact on the economy and every day Ohioans; and this is just what the pro-legalization side is hoping for.

A majority yes vote is needed for the amendment to pass, and would be added to Section 12 of Article XV of the Constitution of the State of Ohio.
What does it allow and what are the limitations? The proposed amendment would allow for commercial production exclusively in a few selected counties within Ohio, including our own Hamilton county and neighboring Clermont county. Marijuana would be available for recreational purchase at around 1,100 locations within the state. The establishments of consumption must carry a license and cannot be located within 1,000 feet of a church, synagogue, mosque, etc., public or private school, state-licensed day care center, or public playground or child’s park. After a certain period of time, any of the listed establishments listed above may not force a preexisting marijuana dispensary to relocate within 1,000 feet. In addition, no state law nor local law can prohibit the development or operation of marijuana progression, whether it be it’s growth, cultivation, or extraction. In short, consumers will be subject to a nearly 20% excise tax on any and all purchases they
