Most Floridians forget that governor Rick Scott approved the use of a non-euphoric strain of marijuana for people with these three conditions: cancer, seizures, and muscle spasms. This amendment seeks to give more people access to the drug based on less specific conditions. In fact a "debilitating medical condition” is defined as cancer, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, hepatitis C, HIV, AIDS, ALS, Crohn's disease, Parkinson's disease or “any other conditions for which a physician believes that the medical use of marijuana is appropriate.” Thats where the danger is, the amendment is not specific enough to protect against physicians who would potentially abuse this new ability to prescribe this drug. Whats dangerous about more people using this drug you ask? Marijuana is a psychoactive drug which means it affects the mind (resulting in alterations in perception, mood, consciousness, cognition, and behavior). Basically its a substance that impairs your thinking and motor skills, leading to poor judgement (comparable to the affects of alcohol). In fact according to a recent study, fatal car crashes involving pot use have tripled in the U.S. A popular argument for legalizing marijuana is that alcohol is much worse and its legal, and we all agree that alcohol use leads to more deaths.
