When researchers and chemists receive the marijuana plant, they follow a series of processes to separate two elements of the plant, THC and CBD (Abuse). These two elements are the main components that help treat many patients throughout the US. THC is the main mind-altering ingredient of the plant, but it is also addictive (Abuse). It is not possible for patients to become addictive to it because the government regulates the distribution of this treatment (Abuse). Every patient receives this treatment with certain amounts of cigarettes throughout a certain time period (Abuse). Patients who qualify for this treatment are ones with conditions such as seizures, glaucoma, peripheral neuropathy, asthma, migraines, bipolar disorder, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and Huntington’s disease (Bearman, Par 23). Currently, 1,246,170 are legal medical marijuana patients (Number). 2,604,079 (estimated) patients would use medical marijuana as a treatment if it was legal in all states (Number). Medical marijuana treatment could provide therapeutic benefits to over 687 million cases of ailments or diseases in the United States (How).
