Marijuana is a huge conflict in today’s society. There are two uses for marijuana: Medical and Recreational. Both sides could be argued as to if it should be illegal or not. Recreational marijuana should be Illegal nationwide. Crime has increased, it is unhealthy, and it makes finding jobs harder for users. It would benefit everyone if recreational marijuana was made to be illegal.
Marijuana was legalized first in washington in 2012. Since the legalization of marijuana in seven other states: Oregon, California, Alaska, Nevada, Colorado, Maine, and Massachusetts crime has increased. The amount of smuggling has increased in the United States. Legalization was meant to decrease usage of the black-market, but due to the legalization in only some states, smugglers have taken advantage of the laws(2017). According to some officers they have seen an increase in cartel activity on the U.S. side of the border(2017). Marijuana causes breathing problems. It irritates the lungs causing inflammation, phlegm, coughing, frequent lung illness, lung infections, and physical activities difficult(2017). New research has also proven that marijuana has caused a higher risk in stroke and heart failure(20170. Marijuana consumed by teens is another health problem. The teen consumption causes complications in brain development. The attention span and memory for teens is also decreased(2017). Teens who use marijuana are more known to have more of a criminal behavior and decreased IQ(2017). Teens are also affected by the short term side effects. Some short term side effects of using marijuana is trouble in thinking and remembering, dry mouth, fast heart rate, and slowed coordination(2017).
