Legalize it
The use and possession of marijuana in most countries is considered illegal. Today many countries have legalized marijuana while many still have not. A small amount of weed has been allowed in a few areas of the world, such as Europe, North America, and South America. The United States has yet to fully legalize marijuana however; some states like Washington, Colorado and California have made the possession and use of marijuana for medical purposes legal. There are various penalties for use or possession of marijuana in many countries. Usually these penalties range from simple to severe punishments. The effects of alcohol and cigarettes to the human body are dangerous among others; they cause cancer, and liver cirrhosis. The United Sates department of health and human studies (2008) conducted a study that found that in the United Stated, 69.7 million people use tobacco, while about 15 million people abuses alcohol. The study also found out that 4.2 million of the American population uses marijuana for the wrong reason, every 1000 deaths were found to have been caused by smoking related diseases, and 550 deaths were found to have been caused by alcohol related diseases and accidents. The people who are against the legalization of marijuana use such research findings to claim that marijuana is already being widely used in United States and other parts of the world and it does not cause more deaths while compared to other drugs. For example, the United States today has 15.2 million marijuana users while there are 129 million alcohol users in the United States (Moffat 17). Even though the people that use marijuana are not as many as the people using alcohol, it can be noted that there is a high chance that legalization of marijuana is likely to increase its usage among people because it will be ready for purchase and use. The fact that tobacco and alcohol are both taxed drugs even though they have serious consequences to the human body, should be seen as a clear sign that even though the two are legalized they have serious negative effects to those who actively use
