In today’s society, abortion has become the number one birth control pill. Women who become pregnant often consider abortion as their first option. If they are not ready to take the responsibility of raising a child, they choose to have an abortion. A study was conducted showing why women chose to have abortions and they found four out of the five most common reasons for abortion in 2004 were similar to those in 1987. It indicated that a baby would dramatically change their lives, that they could not afford a baby now, that they did not want to be a single mother or had problems with their relationship, and that they were not ready for a child or another child (Guttmacher).
