Abortion should be legal, for it gives the women power over her own body, no women should be forced to keep a child they do not want, and abortions are painless up until the third trimester.
If a female had been raped why should she be forced to keep a child she does not want? Why would she want a child that will remind her of what happened? A widely-cited 1996 study from the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology sampled over 4,000 women and found that the rape-related pregnancy rate was 5.0 percent. To prevent the completion of a pregnancy that has resulted from rape or incest; to prevent the birth of a child with serious deformity, mental deficiency, or genetic abnormality; or to prevent a birth for social or economic reasons (such as the extreme youth of the pregnant female). Fetuses do not start feeling pain until the third trimester of pregnancy, after 26 weeks the cortex begins to form causing the fetus to be able to feel pain. Abortions rarely happen after that.
