For the last thirty-five years, Iraq has been in either direct or indirect war. Due to a various, reasons Iraq has been the target of terrorist groups for the last 15 years. Thirteen years earlier, Iraq was under crippling economic sanctions, and ten years before that Iraq was at war for eight long years. The culmination of these has made Iraq an unstable country with an inefficient government, worn out infrastructure and a devastated economy. Over one million Iraqis have already lost their lives, and many more have been wounded, orphaned or widowed; a tragedy that no country deserves. What the public and private sectors in Iraq lack, whether industrial, agricultural, educational, or commercial, is precise and careful planning, coupled with high quality management. This is vital for securing the future of the Iraqi economy and the prosperity of its population. Unfortunately, the Iraqi government has a long history of mismanaging the national budget, creating unrealistic and overambitious plans which they inevitably fail to properly execute. Basic needs such as food and vaccines, and almost all kinds of foreign goods were hard to come by, if not impossible, for the general public who were unaffiliated with the regime’s ruling party (the Ba’ath). Whilst initially things got better after 2003, this was short-lived. Another evil, namely Al-Qaida, very quickly filled the vacuum. I, and others like me, spent our entire high school and undergraduate years living in this state of fear and insecurity fearing for our families, friends, loved ones and, of course, our own lives. Despite all that, my parents always encouraged me to pursue my education, to learn more and allow nothing to stop me from increasing my knowledge and improving myself, and that’s what I constantly strive to do.
The course that I’m very enthusiastic to study, and hope to be admitted to, is the MSc in Project Planning and Management. The University of Bradford has an excellent reputation as one of the UK’s best universities, and has an excellent international reputation. It is the perfect institution for me to take the next step of my life, and continue building my character and
