Persuasive Essay On Human Trafficking

Have you ever thought to yourself, “Was slavery really abolished?” That can’t be. Before Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery, humans walked this Earth owning one another. How is this possible? Can you own someone else? Yes, sadly but truly you can. That’s when more questions arise. What is a slave? A slave is person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them. They are forced and it’s legal? How is owning someone legal? Forced indicates that person has no say so in the matter. Slaves and masters lived for years, even raising humans in that predicament. That’s all past slaves know for generations on. Just because Lincoln abolished slavery, doesn’t mean it’s actually gone. Humans are still enslaved today. There are women …show more content…
Human trafficking involves men, women and children being brought into a situation of exploitation through the use of violence, deception and forced to work against their will. This includes forced prostitution, labour, marriage and servitude. Did you know the average cost of a slave is generally around ninety dollars? About eighty percent of trafficking involves sexual exploitation and about nineteen percent involves labor exploitation. A lot of people are trafficked across international borders, that includes about six hundred-thousand to eight hundred-thousand people every year, eighty percent are women and forty percent are children. Men are rarely trafficked. I’m guessing men don’t make good enough whores for traffickers. The average age of teens in the sex trade is 12-14 years old, which is pretty young. In the United States of America, more people are reported being taken for trafficking in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area than in any other state. Roughly 14,500 to 17,500 people are trafficked into the United States each year. Now imagine walking home from school or work on a sunny day and a van pulls up on you, then kidnaps you. These people in the van may or may not speak English, so you probably don’t know what they are saying or where they are taking you. Your adrenaline is rising at a super high pace making you fall asleep. You are asleep until you feel a sudden breeze of cold air.

After the Civil War, the United States had to determine how to deal with former Confederates and former African American slaves. The emphasis of property rights, specifically land ownership, caused problems throughout Reconstruction (McPherson, 547). An African American freedman stated, “Every colored man will be a slave, & feel himself a slave until he can raise his own bale of cotton & put his own mark upon it & say dis is mine!” (McPherson, 547) Since the Founding Fathers established America on the importance of property rights, African Americans felt that owning land would be the only way to change their status from being enslaved to being free. Americans prided themselves on the ownership of tangible property as well as the property of their own labor.…

Sex; it’s always been a hot topic. It’s always been the case that humans, in their base nature, are instinctive creatures and often act on animalistic desires, especially those of a sexual nature. People are no longer slaves to others, but they are slaves to themselves. President Abraham Lincoln concluded that, “And by virtue of the power and for the purpose aforesaid, I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated states and parts of states are, and henceforward shall be, free”. People are free from the law, but they are not free from the judgement of others. When a black man walks into a restaurant, he is judged for his color (Du Bois).
