There is no real evidence that proves its effectiveness or if the treatment is honestly preventing patients from contracting diseases. The National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia set out an expedition to prove whether or not homeopathy was effective in treating “health conditions.” The experiment concluded, “there are no health conditions for which there is reliable evidence that homeopathy is effective”(NHMRC). Though this experiment was only based in Australia, it was still able to provide sufficient support for the non-effectiveness of homeopathy. Researches have collectively concluded that homeopathy should not be utilized on patients who have chronic or serious diseases like HIV or cancer. Patients who choose to engage in such practice can potentially worsen their disease. Medicals advise these patients to pursue treatments that have been proven to better their disease such as surgery in a caner patient. If people decide to continue with homeopathy after knowing the risk, the NHMRC recommends, “[to] get advice from a registered health practitioner” or else these individuals will have to face the consequences. As stated before, homeopathic medicine is prepared by diluting the plant, animal part or chemical in water. After it has been diluted, it is then hit against the wall repeatedly, which has raised questions as to if the medicine still contains the said …show more content…
Doctors are rushing in and out, trying to consult all their patients, all while giving them the necessary prescriptions. It is a hard task to treat all the patients that are buzzing around in hospitals and that is why many patients turn to homeopathy. A typical homeopathic consultation lasts about an hour and the doctor asks more in-depth questions, rather than the patients symptoms. These consultations usually consist of a brief background of the patient. It resembles more of a therapy session rather than a medical consultation, which seems to sit well with many patients. They feel more safe and are more trusting of these doctors. Homeopathic supporters feel that if other doctors treated them the same way, they would be more likely to visit them. The talking to a friend seems like an attractive form of practice and has allowed several patients to convert to homeopathy. Though these consultations seem to be the favorable part of the practice, critics state that these people can attend therapy sessions as well. Instead of relying on this medicine, attending a therapy session can provide that “get to know you” aspect that seems to be the sole reason for attending these homeopathic consultations. After these consultations are over, the doctor prescribes a medicine that is said to treat the patient as a whole, rather than a part of the patient. It does seem odd to treat the whole body because most prescriptions are said to
