Personal Narrative: An Interview Of A Mother

Improved Essays
When I first arrived to “Nix’s” house to conduct my interview I was greeted by her two boys and they were very eager to play. So I played with them as their mother finished up the dishes. We sat down on the front porch and watched the children play outside while I asked the questions the first question I asked was “How many children do you have and how old are they?” “Nix” answered very quickly she said “I have three children my oldest is “Alex” he will be turning six years old next week. My middle child is “Chris” he is three years old now and my youngest your god daughter “Sophie” is a year and half. I also have “Maxi” who is no longer with me she would be nine years old.”
I moved on and asked the next question “what were your thoughts about

The thing that influenced most was losing “Maxi” to SIDS it broke me I didn’t want to do anything I quit my job blaming it because I wasn’t home and I thought of how much time I could have had with her if not for working so much. So a few years later when I found out I was pregnant I again took a leave I spent as much time as I could get with “Alex” when he was sick I called off and I would not leave him. I see people today leave their babies at day care for almost the whole day. I use to be that parent but I learned the hard way just how special time with your children is. Then when “Chris” began to walk he got out of the yard we called all of our family because they live nearby but no one had seen him I grabbed me keys and drove around the block thinking he couldn’t of got far but when I didn’t find I freaked and sped to the police station when I ran in all eyes were on me I screamed that I couldn’t find my son. Just then a door on the side opened and there he was sitting in the police arm my heart slowed I grabbed and held him and just cried. Apparently my neighbor saw him and called the police because they thought I was an unfit parent and we had to go through therapies and trainings and fill out tons of paper work before he was allowed to come home with …show more content…
This assignment helped me to think about how important it is to understand where a parent is coming from since everyone comes from different incomes and different cultures. I found this assignment very useful because it allowed me to learn more about how to talk to parents, I would apply it when thinking about the families of my students and encourage fellow workers to do the same that way every family can feel accepted and appreciated when they join a center. I believe having parents involvement will be benefitual for the student. Also if parents are comfortable around you as a teacher you could have more days where the parents could come in or go on field trips with the children. Helping the community come together as a whole. I wonder what kinds of ice breaker activities I could create to help parents feel more

Mom was small, a slight 110 pounds but through my eyes, she was large, even after my height surpassed hers. To this day, she would argue that she weighed only 100. Her strong presence claimed her space, and anyone else's that she cared to. Being right was of utmost importance to her, and she made sure always to have the last word. Overbearing, and overprotective of me, her only child, she usually controlled every situation, regardless of how trivial.…

I was born in San Francisco to a single mother, and I have never known anything different. My mother provided an incredible life for me, for which I am eternally grateful. At the age of eleven my mother decided it would be financially best to relocate to Casper, Wyoming, where she would have the help of her family to raise me. Although the move was extremely difficult for both of seeing that we created friendships and bonds with people that we would no longer see as often, my mother has never made a decision she didn’t think was best for both of us. My mother always puts my well-being first which has given me my love of helping others.…

My little boy didn’t look like himself anymore, he looked like a different person. As I looked at the monitor, I was still in disbelief that we’d found my son after three long years without him. There are few reasons why I selected my mom to do a cultural interview with her. This is because I can describe my mom as a loving and caring parent I ever had. One reason is that, my mom really supports me for my education and future goals to do well and succeed. In other words, I always do good and well in school that I’ll never give up, keep on trying and make my mom proud of me based on my sense of motivation, hard work and dedication. The last reason is that, my mom is currently 50 years old and she’s in good shape and health.…

When I first learned of this assignment my first thought was to interview my mom. She is the one person in my life I am closest to. Since we are only twenty three years apart, I thought it would be best to focus on her life up to the point where she decided to have kids. Though I knew most of what she told me it was still nice to just sit and talk about her life experiences. My mother was born to older parents and was the youngest of three children.…

My mother and I did not share a typical mother/daughter relationship. There was a time when we would not even speak and years would pass before I would even see her again. However, I would always see her when I looked into the mirror, since I looked just like her. I would hear her laugh because our laughs were identical, and small details we shared would remind me of the relationship I was missing, the relationship I felt everyone took advantage of. During my senior year all hope of a possible reconciliation would be lost.…

Independent is the best way to describe my grandma Kollette’s personality: she is strong and sure of herself. When she was married to my grandpa, she had something horrible happen to her: her husband of thirteen years revealed that he was gay and left her and their four kids to be with a man. This is a situation that most women would not be able to come back from. He left her with total responsibility and she took life by the reigns, held on tight, and she did it well. Kollette is an example of what I call a “woman”.…

It was late in the night and I was laying down to go to bed, when my mother’s worse nightmare was about to begin, but this wasn’t just my mother’s nightmare, it was also mine. It was a nightmare I had lived for almost three months before working up the courage to speak up- I wouldn’t even consider it courage, it just had gotten to the point where I couldn’t face the darkness alone. I had realized I was never going to wake up from this nightmare on my own.…

When I can involve parents and show them what their child is doing and learning, it helps create a positive learning environment. The role that parents play in their child’s education cannot be underestimated. When parents are involved, their child’s motivation increases. What I do to keep my parents informed on what we are doing as a class is I send out emails every six weeks that go over what we did and what the new objectives are for the new six weeks. Similarly, there are certain times throughout the year that I invite parents out to my shop, so they can see what their child is working on.…
