Immigration in the United States The United States hosts the largest immigrant population in the world, yet our current immigration system is broken and crumbling below our feet. An H1-B visa holder is allowed temporary status as a foreign worker for a U.S. employer. The H1-B Visa workers program is abusive because it uses immigrants for their labor but they continue to be put through the bureaucratic limbo of our currently broken immigration system. The system that immigrants are put through in order to receive citizenship needs to be altered because H1-B cards will expire before they have enough time for their green card petitions to be processed, if laid off from a job immigrants become illegal and the benefits that they bring to our economy are overlooked by many and deserve to be appreciated. The dual intent behind an H1-B allows for card holders to have be legal immigrants and apply for their green card in order to gain status, while still holding their H1-B visa. The major flaw behind this system is the fact that the process in which application and obtaining of the green card takes longer than an H1-B is permitted to these employees. Therefore, an immigrant would not have enough time to become legal before their card would expire causing them to be labeled as an illegal immigrant. If the process of obtaining a green card was simplified or sped up for those immigrants who utilize the H1-B visa, this issue of time gap would be
