Persuasive Essay On Guns In Schools

We trust our teachers to mold and develop our children into outstanding young adults, and we enact policies that make sure every child has a safe education. It seems though, we can not put the same trust and polices together to provide a safer education for the new generation. With all the school shootings happening, teachers are beginning to speak up and say they are comfortable carrying concealed handguns in the classroom. While in the classroom the teachers word is law, many parents are protesting this, because they think it could somehow put the kids in further danger. These are the main arguments against teachers carrying firearms: kids will get their hands on the guns, kids will be afraid in the classroom, and it will teach kids that violence is the answer. A handgun would be on their person, not hidden around the room. What is the point of a teacher being armed if they cannot reach their handgun in an emergency? Secondly, children usually view Police Officers as their heroes, and they do not fear the police, even though they openly carry firearms. So, why would we expect children to fear their teachers if they are concealing firearms? If we teach the proper respect of firearms, for both those carrying and those in the room, then a better security can be made in the classroom.
