“On an average day, 91 Americans are killed by the use of guns.” (Everytownresearch). The number of deaths due to guns increases every year. This number should be decreasing. As years go on we should be progressing as a nation, not regressing. The number of mass shootings continue to rise. Congress should pass legislation to limit gun possession because far too many citizens of the United States are losing their lives to gun violence. The number of deaths due to guns in the United States is drastically higher than other industrialized countries. “Guns kill 30,000 and more every year in The United States.” (Everytownresearch). Our politicians do not view this as a problem. Other countries experience 20 deaths per year. Online sales or gun fairs do not require a background check. This means anyone can buy a gun. In my opinion, this is one of the biggest problems. If these actions are not bad enough, they are usually done illegally. Obama once said, “We’ve created a system in which dangerous people are allowed to play by a different set of rules.” Obama’s statement is accurate, we are allowing people who should not have a gun, to have a gun. Our accessibility to guns needs to change and we need to require background checks in order to be successful. The amount of deaths caused by guns is absurd compared to other countries. Congress needs to improve gun legislation. A mass shooting is defined as, four or more people killed or injured by gunfire. “355 mass shootings have occurred in 2016 alone.” (Ingraham). 365 days a year, how do people not see this as a problem?
