Over the past fifteen years the rate of deaths from guns has increased dramatically. In 2015 there were three hundred and seventy-two mass shootings, killing over eight hundred people and injured over one thousand people. ("BBC News", 2016) Although there are these staggering numbers of deaths and injuries, guns are not becoming more regulated nor are they becoming safer. The American gun industry takes in about 6 million dollars a year and 47 percent of Americans report having guns in their homes. (sunburn) Though such a large amount of people have guns in their homes, 15.3 percent of the American population lived below the poverty level(Bishaw) , and many cannot afford to send their children to achieve secondary education. If instead of buying guns, or owning multiple guns, people helped pay to send their children to college, the American poverty rates would lessen. Gun control laws should also be put into place to keep individuals such as children and women
