Persuasive Essay On Gun Control

Everyday atrocities occur, and everyday people apathetically watch them happen possessing nothing but blank, empty stares. People are murdered, wars are fought, countries are stricken with poverty, diseases run rampant ending countless lives, and the list goes on and on and, as a people, we are too numb for the magnitude of these misfortunes to even register in our minds. When the average man is sitting on his couch and accidentally flips the channel to the news and sees that thousands died in a bombing overseas, he might experience a brief moment of concern for those that lost their lives and those who lost loved ones in the bombing, but he will soon accept it as a fact of life and the thought of the families ripped apart by the bombing is …show more content…
A good example of this is the recent chain of ruthless school shootings that are increasingly becoming commoner, and the only reaction this has sparked is an ongoing argument regarding gun control without any actions actually being taken in the name of actually preventing the shootings. Just as the cow may find the rain irritating, but makes no effort to take shelter, we witness atrocities day after day, and do little about it. Because, like the cow, we have grown to accept it. The mere amount of attention we've allotted to the most recent school shooting compared to how much attention the heart wrenching shooting that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary received is an indicator of just how common the shootings have become and how we are growing less surprised every time someone decides to shoot up a school. As a whole, we are becoming accustomed to the idea that every so often a school full of children is going to have to deal with a mad man with a gun coming in and killing innocent people. We are beginning to lose our sensitivity to school shootings, just as we've lost our sensitivity to things such as gang violence and
