In America we were given certain rights by our founding fathers that were given to us to maintain order within the country; one of these is the Second Amendment, the right to bear arms. It allows us as United States Citizens to carry a fire arm for reasons such as self defense and hunting. ( "Second Amendment.") Now in our country there are some who wish to take away that right by saying that firearms are the source of violence in our nation. These people would have others believe that guns are the reason that violent crimes happen everyday in our nation. The government is trying to ban the use of guns in our nation, and guns are not even the biggest problem. .(Deakins) No one should be able to take away our right to bear arms. The government is doing all they can to take away our right to own guns by telling us that guns are the reason for violent crimes but taking away guns doesn’t actually reduce crime rates. Several shootings have happened in so called gun-free zones. School shootings are probably the most well known of all shootings in gun-free. In 2008, five people were killed and several more were injured at Northern Illinois University after a shooter entered the school, a posted gun-free zone, and also in December 2012 with the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut that ended in the murder of twenty-eight people and the hospitalization of two more.(Lott, Newtown…2012) Slapping a label on a building doesn’t stop someone from breaking a law. Studies have shown that the mere presence of a gun can deter criminals. This means that stationing an armed guard at each school and federal buildings would most likely solve most of the nations shooting
