We Should Not Have Aggressive Gun Control
Gun control is a political issue that has started to resurface in the media in the last few years. This debate is whether or not we should have more aggressive gun laws because of shootings that have happened, including the Sandy Hook incident. I believe that we should not have aggressive gun control of our weapons.
My first reason why we do not need aggressive gun control laws is because we must be able to defend ourselves. In the Sandy Hook incident, there was no police officer to stop the shooter. If the teacher would have been educated on firearms and armed, she could have ended the situation herself and no one else would have been hurt. “ No law or institution …show more content…
They specifically wrote it down in the Bill of Rights because they thought it was very important for us to have this right. If this privilege, or right, was not written down and only implied, then I could see why there is so much debate about it. However, our founders knew that the right to protect ourselves is very important and that is why it is the second amendment to our Constitution. “ The constitution of most of our states ( and the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that is their right and duty to be armed at all times.” (Gun Quotes of Founding Fathers) This is from one of our founding fathers and one of our first leaders in the newly established United States. He clearly knew that people would have to arm themselves to protect themselves.
Aggressive gun control is not the answer to the recent violent attacks. The answer is to arm yourselves against the enemy and be ready for anything. Gun control would not stop criminals from getting their hands on guns illegally, and it would only hinder law abiding citizens from buying them.
