Persuasive Essay On Gun Control

The topic of gun control has been around for many, many years. In recent years, more and more people have been murdered with guns. 13, 286 people were killed due to guns in 2015. Because it is not the 1800s anymore, the 2nd Amendment needs to be amended to fit the current situation of America. Weapons such as assault rifles should not be available to the public. The 2nd Amendment was written in 1791. During this time, Americans only had muskets which took a long time to refill and they were hard to use. Now, in 2018, there are guns such as AK-47s that can fire 600 rounds per minute. They are easily accessible to the public. These weapons are being used to murder children. The only people that should have access to these weapons are the military. Even then, they should only be used during training on bases and in active combat. In other countries, after mass shootings involving assault rifles, the guns were banned from the public and there has not been a shooting since. Citizens should be allowed to own guns, but not assault rifles that can kill hundred in minutes. The 2nd Amendment states, “A well regulated Militia...shall not be infringed”. Teenagers and adults are massacring children, and nobody is doing anything about it. Congress and the NRA believe that rifles are more important than children’s right to live.
