Persuasive Essay On Gun Control

7 children are killed by gun violence every day, yet politicians are trying to make guns more accessible. As a country we cannot keep letting innocent people die due to gun violence. The only way we can do so is to implement stricter gun control laws. We need background checks on all gun sales, a ban on assault weapons, and mandatory training when you buy a gun. People who don’t know how to use a gun should not be allowed to have/own/procure a gun. This might seem like common sense, but many people believe otherwise and think everyone should be able to buy a gun. Research shows that states with stricter and more gun control laws have fewer firearm deaths. Why should the government keep gun laws that are obviously harmful to our states? It is appalling that pro-gun politicians who could pass legislations to keep us safer ignore these facts and carry on not helping those being harmed by gun violence every day. Yes, some people use gun to hunt and shoot targets, but they would still be able to own guns if we had more gun control because you do not hunt with assault weapons and they could still own guns if they passed background checks. The people who would be affected by the gun precautions are the ones who would want to use a gun to cause harm. Some argue that everyone deserves a gun for self defense. Yet according to the Brady Campaign a gun is 22 times more likely to injure than be used in self defense and according to the New York Times 230 out of 8275 shooting are in self defense.
