One of the many controversial topics in the United States in present day is gun control. Within the constitution, we the people are clearly given the right to bear arms. In recent times the misuse of the Second Amendment has done more harm than good. Where should the line be drawn? School is a safe zone for many adolescents to get away from troubles at home as well as the world around them—it is a place for education to take place. The thought of mass shootings in our local schools is mind-boggling to every sane person in America. Who would of thought, that the year 2018 would be the year schools would no longer remain a safe zone for the upcoming generations. That small chance of being born just to be taken away by another individual in a country with poor gun regulation. The argument I’m making is not that guns should be illegal, just a stronger regulation with thorough background checks on every individual to ensure proper handling and usage of guns. The country with the lowest mass shooting statistics has the highest gun regulation. What’s stopping America from reaching their levels of security? Is it the fact that people just love the idea of guns, or it is it that America’s ignorance to the safety of others? The answer lies within the roots of American civilization. By this I mean, people always want to feel they have more power than others, guns fill that power lust. Before the times of guns, it was another weapon to fill the void. However, weapons don’t kill people, people kill people. Proper regulation would decrease the mass shooting not only in public areas as well as schools where our children attend. Stricter gun control isn’t going to fully stop public shootings—however it’s a
