College, all of our teachers have been there and most likely hope that their pupils will attend as well. The topic of free college tuition is extremely controversial and is constantly in the news, our schools and for the high school student and the college professor, it is always on our mind. Many political leaders and educational authorities make constant attempts to please everyone by creating their policies which propose various procedures for taking on free college. Many of these policies drastically differ from ideas of entirely free tuition to plans which simply suggest lowering the cost of tuition. Free college is shown in other countries not to be succesful and in our own country there are examples in which it does succeed but without the increase of taxes from hardworking middle class individuals free college is not a possibility. …show more content…
Without having to personally pay for their education students would no longer have a drive to encourage them to put in the effort to learn. Also colleges, being government funded, would no longer feel it necessary to give out quality education as mentioned by Kevin James of U.S. News, “...this would significantly reduce presssure on public institutions to serve students effectively” (James). Free college would increase the amount of incoming students each year. In order to maintain quality education, discussed by Andrew P. Kelly in a forum on Education Next, “...colleges must pay professors more, which raises cost year over year”(Kelly). Colleges would either have to hire more professors or pay them more money to teach larger classes. To pay them more and maintain “free” college they would be required to request more government money costing the taxpayers more and
