Introduction: At Dinwiddie Middle School the school board is trying to extend school hours by adding an extra hour. There are many reasons why the adding of school hours would be beneficial to children. It could benefit the children by helping some children with learning the school work. In another way the extension could also hurt a lot of people in the process. Therefore, I disagree with the addition of school hours for a lot of reasons for the main 3 reasons is it creates less time for people to have for after school activities and jobs , grades could go down because of the school hours , and children could become sleep deprived and harm their health.

Body Paragraph 1: The first reason the extension would be harmful is that it could create less time for kids to have for after school activities. In the years sports have gone up in attendance. Sense kids are joining they have practice after school most of the time. But with the extension they will not be able to attend practice, that would force children to quit their sport. Another example is when kids after school sometimes have work and jobs to manage, but if their in school they won’t be able to have a job.

In a average day kids have a 8 hour day at school with homework to do at home for a grade. But if they add an extra hour that could affect a student schedule after school. A student will usually have their day planned out with what they do after school to when they do their homework. If they add the hour the grades could decline because kids will become less focused because they would be caught up in

The Mill Valley High School Board members should reject the proposed idea of a later school day because it is beneficial to students with after school activities such as sports and jobs. The idea that a later school day is beneficial towards students is preposterous because students with after school activities and jobs would need to be out of school at an earlier hour. Take John Sherwood’s testimony for example. He complains, “But it’s going to make football practice a nightmare. We won’t be able to be dressed and on the field until 4:45, and in October, it starts getting dark by 5:30...…

.In the state of Virginia, with mean student body size of 1,076 (“Table 5…,” 2001) and growing, ten dollars per student would allow for an additional 10,760 dollars of funding. The second concern that children require down time as it is beneficial to them and allows them to engage in play, familial events, and societal occasions such as festivals or tourism. Summer camp is a social gathering event, allowing a child to learn interactive skills and meet other children, taking that activity away would be wrong. However, this concern over peer interaction and learned social skills is easily mitigated, as school is also a social environment with equal opportunities for interaction with other children.…

Education is an important facet in any government's function. I would hope that those that lead my country and those who lead other countries are educated and prepared to handle what challenges may arise to face them. Year-round school is a hotly debated subject among today's politicians, parents, and students. I hope to examine and assess the perspectives given, declare and explain my own perspective on the issue, and discuss the relationship between my perspective and those given. It can very easily be noticed that the first perspective is staunchly supportive of a year-round school year, and the third is supportive but not in favor of immediate implementation.…
