“Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year.” (Pet Statistics, ASPCA.org) The animals that enter the shelters are abandoned, abused or lost. With the numerous amount of animals entering shelters each year there is not enough money or space to provide these animals temporary homes. . According to ASPCA.org, “Of the dogs entering shelters, approximately 35% are adopted, 31% are euthanized and 26% of dogs who came in as strays are returned to their owner.” The act of euthanasia is humanely putting the animal to its death.
