One pill after another. This will become your life. You will forever deal with side effects, addictions, rejections, and tolerance. Every day in the US, 2,500 youth, ages 12 to 17 abuse a prescription pain reliever for the first time. Medications are not “fun”, they are not a toy that you can just pass around. The ability to get prescribed medications from a doctor has be has become a popular way of getting medication legally, but then selling it illegally. In fact, prescription drugs are now killing far more people than illegal drugs. The world of psychology and advancements of medication, including a bigger and better understanding of mental illness has increased an incredible amount over the past years. Doctors no longer think of people with mental illnesses as “crazy”, lock them away and throw away the key. Mental illness, including drug addictions can be treated, however misdiagnoses is very common. You will go through many bottles of different medications, different diagnoses, and you become a trial and error experiment. Day after day, patients take their prescribed medication as instructed, even if they do not need it, forming a dependency. Being dependent on a drug makes you feel that you need it, and will have negative side effects when discontinuing the medication. Some people may purposely discontinue their prescription drug without a doctor’s consent due to cost, stigma, they believe it is not needed anymore, they sell it for the money, or they enjoy the feel of the after effects such as
