There are many laws that many people, including myself, should follow. No matter what age someone is, they should always follow the law. Laws were made to protect us. There is no real reason for someone to break a law and potentially hurt themselves or someone around them. One law that everyone (including myself when I grow older) should take seriously is no driving under the influence. The first person to be arrested for drunk driving was George Smith in London in 1897. In 1910, New York became one of the first states to create the no drinking and driving laws. By the 1930’s, National Safety Council had created tests to determine the level of intoxication of a person. In 1938, 0.15 was the first legal limit for BAC (blood alcohol concentration). Around the 70’s drunk driving laws became stricter due to lobbying from the groups MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving). The legal BAC around that time was dropped to 0.10. Now the legal BAC is 0.08.

This is the type of law that if not taken seriously it can harm the person disobeying it and the people around. “In 2012, 10,322 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third (31%) of all traffic-related deaths in the United States.”(I.D.) Even people who aren’t under the influence can get hurt at anytime by someone who is. Those who are under the influence don’t really understand what is happening around them. I could be walking down the street and get hit by a car because someone was under the influence.” Your perception abilities are affected; you are less likely to observe traffic signs, bikers, pedestrians or cars coming from the opposite side.”(D.D.) This is not something you want to play around with. Even with the smallest amount of alcohol in someone, they should give their keys to a designated driver or not drive at
