DNA editing has become one of the most talked about research in the scientific community. There are so many illnesses that infect millions of people every day. With DNA editing, some of these illnesses could eventually become nonexistent. When using DNA editing for medical reasons, the gene that carries the illness can be taken completely out of the DNA of the embryo. “The other side of the coin is the fear, as expressed by organizations such as Human Genetics Alert, that the genetic research will become driven by financial greed rather than medical need” (Shields, 2012). For their benefit, if this becomes available to the public, the rich could use this procedure to make the baby that they have always wanted. Their reputations are on the line. Whether it be having a child that is intelligent, or a child that could be one of the best athletes. This could cause an epidemic that could change the world forever, and not for the better. Now, just because the rich could use this to benefit themselves, does not mean that the baby would be what they expected. Changing the color of the child’s eyes or hair might not necessarily mean that it will work. They might have the eye color that the parents wanted, but might have some other feature that they may not have
