Car accidents happen everyday for many reasons. Whether it's caused by car malfunctions , bad weather, or distracted driving. Still over 1.6 million wrecks happen a year but, 330,000 are caused by texting and driving. While we can’t prevent bad weather we can prevent phone involved accidents. Texting and driving should be illegal because it is something that distracts, and it is totally preventable. Plus the biggest risk involving distracted driving is death. If you are driving at 55 mph and take your eyes off the road for the average amount of time it takes to text, five seconds, you will have zoomed the length of a football field without looking at the road.
The definition of distraction is: “A thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else. While some people claim that being distracted from a phone can't happen, and that one is relatively good at multitasking.
