Let's face it: Some dental plans aren't worth the paper they're printed on, and they certainly aren't worth the money you are shelling out every month for coverage. Now, if your employer is picking up the tab, there isn't much you can do. But because employers are increasingly turning to cutbacks in benefits such as dental insurance, an increasing number of people are just getting their own. The reason that so many are joining dental networks, and getting their own dental insurance, is because it is actually a cheaper option than using the coverage provided by their employer.…
On April 28, 1992, Chris McCandless stepped foot into the woods, a journey that would last four months, coming to an end much earlier than he would’ve hoped. In August of 1992, just four months after Chris walked alone into the wild, his perishing body was found by a party of moose hunters. Chris went into the wild hoping to get away from corrupt society and to live a transcendentalist lifestyle. His bold journey was going well until he made a silly mistake when he came across seeds from the wild potato. The seeds themselves are not what killed Chris, it was the amino acids in the seeds that caused him to slowly become paralyzed due to his malnutrition and physical state.…

An individual with a mild loss may not perceive themselves as needing a hearing instrument of that their loss is not severe enough to warrant intervention. It has been reported that individuals on average wait 6.7 years after becoming aware of their hearing loss before adopting hearing aids (Kochkin, 2009). An extensive body of literature exists on the positive impacts of wearing hearing aids, such as improved quality of life, specifically improving communication in relationships, emotional stability and perceptions of mental and physical health (McCormack & Fortnum, 2013). Given all the benefits of hearing instrument use audiologists should aim to address these barriers and determine ways to help individuals receive intervention more…
This thought is due to audism because in reality what sense the deaf community does not have it has increased the others making them reliable…
In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, it is stated, “you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” This project allowed me to follow the words of Harper Lee, receiving the opportunity to understand what it is like to have a mild conductive hearing loss. A conductive hearing loss is due to dysfunction of either the outer or middle ear. To understand an individual’s beliefs, feelings, and values a little bit better, I walked in their shoes for two days. I was able to experience some hardships that are a challenge for a person with a conductive hearing loss would face every day.…

The most common surgery is nose reshaping, and following close behind are tummy ticks, liposuction, and breast augmentations. Being a teenager myself, I cannot justify having these kinds of surgeries.…
People no matter whether they are hearing disabled or capable of hearing should learn to focus on their abilities and not their limitations. Through self-confidence and family support anything is possible for a person who is hearing disabled. Also, assumptions that are made about an individual and what the individual can actually accomplish do not always measure up. Lastly, individuals with hearing disabilities struggle much longer to communicate effectively with individuals who are not hearing impaired, since they must learn sign language and lip-reading.…

This view alone stands as discrimination and is understood by the deaf community as such. Further, it leads to other discriminatory practices, such as rejection by the potential employer based on the assumption that communication would be difficult and for it a deaf person cannot be as productive as the hearing person. These views, perpetuating in the hearing world are hurtful to the Deaf minority as they push them to be the outsiders. There is a growing number of hearing-impaired individuals who regard themselves as a cultural minority. As such, they demand to be treated as one would treat any ethnic or religious minority.…

Since no room for error was left for their new body art, they can thoroughly enjoy their tattoo. Their tattoo is thought through and gives them a chance, like any other student, to exhibit their beliefs and individuality (Firmin, 6). A college student can still demonstrate their uniqueness and independence without having to later regret their actions. Vega, got his first tattoo at nineteen, and now thirty, he says, “I wish I waited longer.…
Did you know that on average a smoker spends $1000 for cigarettes each year? That’s a lot of money wasted for something that you don’t need and is harmful. Once again because of this filthy habit, the financial issue doesn’t only affect the smoker itself, but it can also affect other people: Between 1997 and 2001, smoking was responsible for $167 billion in annual health-care costs and lost productivity in the U.S. alone. Once you smokers kick your daily habit you will probably feel that you wallet is heavier or your bank account is healthier, you could save hundreds if not thousands of dollars each…
