Human rights exist to allow us to live with dignity and free of unjust suffering. Animals and humans differ in many ways, but like people animals deserve the right to a life free of anguish. Although animal farming and experimentation contribute to everyday life and the advancement of today’s society, animals deserve the right to a life without suffering and exploitation for the benefit of others. Humans need to recognize that animals are conscious beings, have emotions and experience physical pain; therefore more humane practices must be found to prevent unnecessary suffering. These products only benefit people and are not necessary for survival. It is morally wrong to subject animals to pain and suffering for such materialistic products. In most tests and experiments “Cosmetics animal testing is a horribly cruel practice in which animals such as mice, rats, and most often rabbits, are subject to allergy tests in the mucous membranes such as eyes, nose and mouth. These chemicals can cause irritation, burning, and corrosion of the eyes and skin such as in the infamous Draize test. What’s more, 50 percent of all animals die in lethal dose tests” (Kantamneni, Visala). Animals undergo many tests, the most common being skin irritation/erosion, eye irritation/erosion and acute oral, dermal and inhalation toxicity. These tests cause irreversible harm and mutation, often resulting in death due to extensive exposure. Animal testing for such products is inhumane and unneeded. This quote explains animal testing perfectly; “Many cosmetic companies test their new products and ingredients by forcing rabbits, hamsters, and mice, among others, to endure horrific practices such as breathing in poisonous fumes or having lethal chemicals poured into their eyes and rubbed into their skin”(Natasha Cole, Cruelty Free Cosmetics). Many supporters of animal testing will argue that it can have positive outcomes, however, humanity uses it in vain ways. This makes it especially wrong because humans are treating animals cruelly and inhumanely mostly to look attractive. Continuing on about cosmetic testing on animals: “Animal testing for cosmetics is an outdated practice and does not provide the most reliable results regarding the safety, performance, or possible reactions that cosmetic products or ingredients could have in a person” (Natasha Cole, Cruelty Free Cosmetics). The reason to continue these means of testing on animals proves to be no longer relevant because easier and more reliable ways of testing do indeed exist.…

Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. These animals are subjected to forced feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, infliction of burns and wounds to study the healing process and effects and remedies. Among the cruelest experiments is the Draize eye test which evaluates irritation by shampoos and other products to the eyes. During this experiment rabbits are restrained and their eyelids are held open by clips for multiple days which leads to the death of 50% of rabbits used (Scientific American, "Do Cosmetic Companies Still Test on Live Animals?," scientificamerican.com). Though I concede that in some situations, animal testing may be useful, such as in immensely important medical studies, I still maintain that it is unnecessary to make an animal suffer and be discriminated against. Although some people may think that animal testing is healthy and beneficial to humans, I believe that animal testing is unethical and utterly wrong because of the unfair repulsive treatment that animals receive from scientists. This topic is important because the world we live in is as much an animal 's world as it is a human’s world and right now humans are discriminating and enslaving…
