To “persevere” is a good thing, right? Kids persevere through school, struggling families persevere through challenging times, and injured people persevere through the pain to live to tell the story. We never think of the bad things persevering, but they do. Traditions of hate and segregation and homophobia hang on for life. Though we have proven that love is stronger than hate numerous times, other hateful traditions are lingering under our noses, waiting to be sniffed out. One being the baseless practice of Conversion Therapy, which has been condemned and promoted, spit on and funded, opposed and proposed. Members of the LGBT community have had multiple victories after finally getting the mouth-piece necessary to speak their case, but things like marriage and these therapy programs are rearing their ugly faces. Conversion Therapy is just hateful, baseless programs to cure a thing that isn’t even considered an illness, and should be put to rest, once and for all. To severe “Republican” types, Conversion Therapy has been ideal and served to correct what is debatably unwrong. The problem is that it can definitely be a saving grace to for homophobic/transphobic households in theory, but there is no evidence condoning the use of these projects.
